How to Measure Your Dog for the Perfect Harness Fit
Share
A well-fitted harness makes all the difference in comfort, control, and safety. Whether you have a tiny toy poodle or a medium-sized mix, getting the right size is essential — especially when ordering online.
At HAPPUP, our LED no-pull harnesses are designed for adjustable, step-in comfort — but here’s how to make sure you get the size just right.
Why Fit Matters
A harness that’s too tight can cause rubbing or restrict movement. Too loose? Your pup might wiggle free. The right fit:
- Prevents chafing
- Keeps your dog safe and secure
- Ensures proper pressure distribution
- Improves control during walks
What You’ll Need
- A soft measuring tape (or a piece of string + ruler)
- Your dog standing upright
- Treats to keep them still (optional but helpful!)
Key Measurements to Take

1. Chest Girth
Wrap the tape around the widest part of your dog’s chest, just behind the front legs. This is the most important measurement.
🔎 Tip: Make sure there’s space for two fingers between the tape and your dog’s body — snug but not tight.
2. Neck Girth (only for adjustable styles)
Measure around the base of the neck, where a collar would naturally sit.
💡 For HAPPUP’s Y-shape harness, chest girth is the primary measurement needed — the neck is adjustable in all sizes.
